Description
Zeiss 63mm f4.5 Luminar, Compur, Linhof 4601116 – 1786117
This Zeiss 63mm f4.5 Luminar Macro Lens, #4601116, is in great condition with minor handling wear. I rate it cosmetically a (9+). The aperture ring is very stiff, but the aperture functions properly and the glass is clean and clear with no haze, marks, or fungus. There are a few faint specks of dust inside, but they do not affect image quality. It has coverage up to 4×5″ and optimized magnification between 2x & 10x. The included Linhof Synchro-Compur shutter is in similar condition, also rated a (9+). The shutter speed ring is smooth and the shutter is accurate at all speeds. This lens includes a flared retaining ring and a Linhof Technika conical lens board. Please refer to the photos for details.
What our Experts Think
- A classic vintage Zeiss optic with historical pedigree
The Zeiss 63 mm f/4.5 Luminar is a prized photomacrographic lens from a bygone era, respected by collectors and dedicated photographers for its craftsmanship and unique characteristics. - Outstanding resolution in macro magnification
Designed for high‑magnification work, this lens offers very good sharpness and detail across its intended macro range, often rivaling other classic macro lenses. - Manual focus with rich mechanical feel
Fully manual operation (including aperture and focus) gives a tactile, engaging shooting experience that appeals to film shooters and vintage lens enthusiasts—perfect for deliberate, artistic photography. - Characterful image rendering
Unlike modern autofocus glass, this Zeiss exhibits classic optical traits such as controlled flare, distinctive contrast, and a unique look that many find creatively inspiring. - Built like a precision instrument
Constructed with robust mechanical engineering (metal barrel, Compur or Synchro‑Compur shutter), this lens endures and feels substantial in hand—ideal for film or adapted mirrorless use. - Adapter‑ready for modern cameras
Though originally RMS/large format mount, adapters make it usable on many mirrorless systems, letting users harness its optical qualities on digital bodies. - Consider the vintage trade‑offs
No autofocus, older coatings mean more flare and lower contrast compared to modern optics, and performance can vary with specimen condition and version.
